Frequently Asked Questions

What is the TUNDRA programme?

The TUNDRA programme is an initiative designed to empower women-led growth-stage companies in the climate technology sector, particularly those operating within Arctic regions.

Why do we focus on the Arctic region?

The Arctic region in the Nordic countries faces unique climate challenges that have global repercussions. Its temperature is rising at least three times faster than the global average, leading to dramatic consequences related to climate change. These changes endanger local environments, prompting urgent collaborative action from Arctic nations and increasing interest from the private sector and government entities seeking climate related innovation opportunities, however there is a huge importance in supporting innovative companies to ensure higher value creation locally and attract talents.

Why do we focus on women-led scale ups?

Women-led climate tech ventures in the Arctic region face unique scalability challenges as a result of limited access to role models, networks and funding. While early-stage ventures receive support through different initiatives, there is a gap in assistance for later-stage companies. The project aims to support women-led companies to grow their business by expanding their market reach, and finding funding opportunities. Additionally, the programme aims to raise awareness about the challenges faced by women founders and strengthen the role of women leaders in the ecosystem.

What startups can be defined as climate tech?

If your startup is working on solutions to mitigate or adapt to climate change, you are a climate tech founder. These solutions are especially critical for the Arctic region, which is experiencing climate change more rapidly than any other part of the world.

TUNDRA is for you if your company focuses on:

Renewable Energy: Solar, wind, geothermal, and hydro solutions to replace carbon-heavy fossil fuels
Energy Storage: Batteries and technologies that stabilize renewable energy and provide backup power.
Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS): Capturing, storing, or reusing carbon emissions.
Sustainable Agriculture: Precision farming, alternative proteins, and vertical farming for a lower carbon footprint.
Circular Economy: Innovations in recycling, waste reduction, and resource efficiency.
Transportation: Electric vehicles and green logistics solutions, critical for the Arctic’s vast distances.
Energy Efficiency: Technology that improves the efficiency of buildings, industrial processes, and transportation.
Climate Resilience & Adaptation: Smart urban planning and infrastructure to mitigate climate risks.
Materials Innovation: Development of sustainable, low-carbon materials like biodegradable plastics.
Water Conservation: Efficient water use, desalination, and wastewater recycling.
Logistics: Innovations in optimizing supply chains and reducing emissions in transportation.
Biodiversity Protection: Technologies to monitor and restore Arctic ecosystems.
Who can apply for the TUNDRA programme?

The programme is open to women-led Nordic companies in the climate tech sector that are at the growth stage and have a significant impact on Arctic regions.
By growth stage we mean:
Validated Product-Market Fit: The company has a proved demand for its product or service.
Customer Base: The business has a small but growing number of customers or users.
Exploring Market Expansion: The company is exploring new markets or refining its approach to increase customer acquisition.
Building the Team: The company has a small team and is expanding its team to support initial growth efforts.
Seeking Investment for Growth:  Raising seed or pre-Series A funding to fuel growth and operations.
